Checklist

AI brief checklist

Help AI and the people you work with understand the job before they start making the thing.

Better output rarely comes from a longer prompt. It comes from giving the work a clear job, a real audience, and a reason to believe before anyone starts drafting. This checklist keeps the important context in the room.

What you will take away

  • Set one outcome
  • Share the real audience context
  • Define what good looks like

Name the decision

Every brief should answer one question: what should this content help someone decide, understand, or do? A broad instruction such as ‘make a post about our product’ leaves the most important decision unresolved.

Use a sentence that pairs audience and outcome: ‘Help first-time buyers understand where this serum fits in a simple evening routine.’

Bring the proof into the room

List the product fact, customer signal, or expert perspective that makes the message credible. This is more useful than asking for a specific tone in isolation.

If a claim needs qualification, include it. Better source context creates clearer, safer content and reduces rounds of revision.

Give the output a finish line

Tell the creator what format, length, platform, and action matter. Add one reference for the energy you want and one thing to avoid.

The goal is not to over-control the work. It is to remove ambiguity that does not help creativity.

Copy this into your next brief
  1. Audience and moment
  2. One outcome and one proof point
  3. Format, platform, action, and an explicit avoid list
